Dental Implantology Program
The Certificate of Dental Implantology Programe is aimed at providing a sound
academic education and practical training for practicing dentists who are
interested in the area of dental Implantology within dental practice. It offers the
flexibility for dental practitioner who can only participate in this type of study part-
time. It will focus on developing the competent, reflective, yet critical practitioner
who, through the study and practice, can contribute effectively in his/her own
practice. The theoretical and practical skills appropriate to modern dental care
delivery will contribute to and influence the development of dental implants as an
alternative treatment plan.
The certificate programe is conducted on a part-time basis for two years. The
interdisciplinary approach will be taught through lectures, seminars, hands-on
using models and live demonstrations, supplemented by problem based and
evidence based learning through  case studies and literature review. The
essential surgical and restorative aspects, the practitioner has to be familiar with
periodontal management and relevant laboratory techniques before embarking
on an advanced level of implant dentistry where co-operation between
specialists will be encouraged.

COURSE COMPONENTS
Didactic (60 hours)
       This will be spread over two years
       Lectures and seminars will be conducted
       Individual modular assessments
Preclinical (15 hours)
       This will be implant system specific
       Practical training on surgical and prosthetic procedures
       Live demonstrations on basic surgical and restorative procedures
Clinical (580 hours)
       This will include various clinical training
       Observation of advanced clinical procedures being carried out the faculty
and accredited local and
       overseas training centers
       Case report of ten completed patients with treatment details will be required
to be submitted for final
       assessment
Assignment (640 hours)
       This will be the ‘homework’ and part of requirements
       A list of literature review topics to be discussed during seminars
       Preparations of short presentations and posters.

Examination
All students are required to sit for assessment examination at the end of each
module and a final examination which consists of a written paper and
presentation of a completed at the end of the two year programe.

AWARD OF THE DIPLOMA
A Certiface of Oral Implantology will be rewarded to those who have
demonstrated the ability to meet the listed objectives and have passed the
necessary prescribed assessments or examinations ( The programe is granted
professional accreditation by DGOI & ICOI)
